Rosehill Park

A unique playground design underpinned by the evocative theme of a creek bed. The design responds to community aspirations for a play space that reflects local aquatic landscapes and historical quarry sites — creating an environment that invites exploration, storytelling, and adventure.
A signature element of the playspace is the incorporation of sculptural and artistic forms. Most notably, a bespoke ‘ancient river tree’ — designed and fabricated by the Agency of Sculpture — anchors the site. Offering multiple modes of engagement including climbing limbs, suspended swings, crawl-through hollows, and elevated perches. It serves as both a focal point and an invitation to play.

The concept invites children to move through elements such as dry riverbed corridors, sandy deposition zones, shallow billabong pockets, trickling rock channels, and scattered boulders encouraging imaginative play and social gathering.

Native planting and habitat elements that reference the local Wurundjeri landscape embed an educational layer into the play experience. Encouraging curiosity and fostering deeper cultural awareness.

Through its intentional design, the playground becomes more than a recreational space: it is a landscape of memory and meaning, where natural systems, Indigenous knowledge, and creative play intersect. It invites children and families to connect with place, with each other, and with the stories embedded in the land itself.
